What is TIER?

TIER (Towards an Inclusive Evaluation of Research) is a CoARA multidisciplinary working group that brings together institutions and people from around the world.

TIER is committed to:

  • Identifying the primary sources of unconscious bias and intersectional gender discrimination in the evaluation of research quality and researchers at any career stage
  • Mapping and promoting effective mitigation strategies
  • Proposing concrete actions for research assessment criteria and practices that foster equal opportunities, inclusiveness, and the valorisation of diversity
  • Producing guidelines and targeted awareness-raising training for evaluators, building on existing resources and European guidelines and project outputs

Because the evidence is clear: diverse, fairly evaluated research teams produce more robust, creative, and impactful science.
